Hundreds flock to art event in York

CROWDS of people have flocked to Make it Up North, a new three-day art event at York Guildhall.
The Art Market's pilot programme - which aims to become a focal point for art and craft in Yorkshire and was attended by hundreds of people - brought together artists, craftsmen and designer-makers from all over the country and included a programme of workshops, talks, installations, demonstrations and live music.
“We wish to reinforce the idea that it's possible to 'make it' as an artist or designer-maker in the north as there is a misapprehension that you have to go down south to be able to sell your work successfully,” co-organiser Victoria Robinson said.
As well as the opportunity to view, buy and commission artists' work, Make it Up North gave visitors the chance to have a go, trying out a new art or craft.
Richard Pollitt, manager of the Mansion House, Guildhall, and civic services, said: “I’m really pleased with how many people have come through the doors, the hall looks great.”
