MORE than 40,000 pints were drunk at this year’s York Beer and Cider Festival, organisers have said.

About 9,000 people attended the four-day event on Knavesmire last month, and drank 31,968 draught pints of beer and more than 8,500 pints of cider.

Visitors also drank 227 bottles of wine and mead and 550 bottles of foreign beer.

Nick Love, one of the festival organisers from the York branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, said the attendance was up by more than ten per cent on 2012’s figure.

The event also raised £1,750 for local charity Snappy, thanks to festivalgoers donating their change in collection tins.
