Man fined for playing loud rap music
A MAN who played loud rap music for eight hours straight on a York residential street has been fined £300.
City of York Council noise patrol officers could hear the music as soon as they arrived on the street after neighbours on Lowfield Drive, Haxby, called a special out-of-hours service late at night in March 23 this year.
Thirty-seven-year-old Robert Masuku, now thought to live in Wakefield, had been playing music by rapper Snoop Dogg, who now prefers to be known as Snoop Lion, so loudly that neighbours could hear the lyrics, and council officers thought their sleep was likely to be disturbed, York magistrates heard.
Magistrates fined Masuku, who did not appear at court, £300 and ordered him to pay £1002.90 in court costs and a £30 victim surcharge at a hearing on October 3.
People can complain about noise on Friday and Saturday nights, between 9pm and 3am, by telephoning or texting the Noise Patrol service on 01904 551555. The service can also investigate complaints outside of these hours by appointment.
