A couple who met as teenagers outside the former office of The Press are today celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Christine and David Cade, both now 70, were separately browsing movie posters on Coney Street when they met in 1958. It was the start of a romance that has stood the test of time.

They married on October 5, 1963, at Clifton Church before spending a week in Blackpool for their honeymoon.

David is now Chairman of Fulford United FC, with which he has been involved for 53 years, while Christine spends a lot of her free time with their two children, Tracey and Sean, and five grandchildren.

Christine, originally from Clifton, was an office worker while David, of Dringhouses, worked at John Peace’s bedding factory. They are both now retired.

They lived in Dringhouses for 30 years before moving to their present home in Acaster Malbis two years ago.

When asked about the secret to a long and happy marriage, Christine replied: “It’s about a lot of giving and a lot of taking.”

They plan to celebrate their anniversary today with a gathering of family and close friends at Wheatlands Lodge on Scarcroft Road.
