Employment advice on offer at jobs fair

JOBSEEKERS and residents looking to boost their skills and qualifications have been gaining support and advice at a jobs fair in York.
More than 50 businesses took part in the event at the Barbican centre, including the Royal York Hotel, Marks & Spencer and Wilf Ward, with retail giant John Lewis also outlining job opportunities at its new Monks Cross store, which opens next spring.
The fair was organised through City of York Council, Learning City York, Job Centre Plus and York Learning, with a “quiet area” for jobhunters to fill in application forms with the assistance of skills and training providers. Council leader James Alexander said the fair was a “fantastic opportunity” for people looking for work and develop their skills and future career prospects through tapping into “a platform of expertise”.
“Ensuring we have jobs in the city is a key priority for the council and one we are actively working to support through our jobs and growth agenda,” he said.
