York trader fined for selling fake designer headphones
11:42am Monday 30th September 2013 in News
A YORK-based trader who sold fake designer headphones online will have to carry out unpaid work after being caught and prosecuted by trading standards officials.
Nadir Haouache, 28, of Barkston Avenue, Acomb, was given a 12-month community order with 50 hours unpaid work, and £1600 bill for court costs, at York Magistrate’s Court.
Haouache had pleaded guilty to charges of possessing goods with a false trade mark, including fake Bose headphones. City of York Council trading standards staff raided Haouache’s home and seized 94 fake products.
Genuine Bose headphones sell for hundreds of pounds, but the imitations were being sold through an internet shop trading as Audiostation for a fraction of the cost.
Magistrates ordered that Haouache pay £1,657.19 in costs and that the seized stock be destroyed by the council’s trading standards team
