A MOTORCYCLIST has died in a crash in North Yorkshire.

The crash happened on the A170 near Sutton Bank, in the Thirsk area, at about 5.45pm on Sunday.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the man, from Beverley, East Yorkshire, was aged in his mid-fifties and riding a Ducati sport bike, and travelling towards Sutton Bank from Thirsk when the collision occurred at Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe.

The spokesman said police believed the rider was overtaking a line of other vehicles when he collided with a blue Vauxhall Astra car that was turning right into the Bagby junction. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and has not yet been identified by police.

The man driving the Astra was not injured, but left shocked by the incident. The road was closed until about 11.10pm.

Detectives have urged anyone who saw the crash, or saw the motorcyclist prior to the incident to contact them on 101, or email
