York schools shut due to strike action - updated
THOUSANDS of pupils at schools in York, North and East Yorkshire are set to be affected by strike action being taken on Tuesday.
As The Press reported yesterday, schools in York, North and East Yorkshire will close or part close for one day next week as teachers strike in a row over conditions and changes within education.
Members of the two main teaching unions, the NUT and NASUWT, will walk out, and union leaders are expecting the majority of schools across the region to be affected.
So far in North Yorkshire the list of schools part-closed is: Brayton College, Carlton and Faceby CE Primary School, King James School, Malton School, Middleham CE School, Scarborough Pupil Referral Unit, Braeburn Infant and Nursery School, St Joseph’s RC Primary, Pickering, Whitby Community College.
North Yorkshire schools which will be fully closed on Tuesday include: Easingwold School, Filey CE Infant and Nursery School, Hambleton CE Primary School, Hunmanby Primary, Monk Fryston CE Primary School, Norton Primary School, Ryedale School, Braeburn Community Junior School, Selby High School, Selby Pupil Referral Service, Sinnington Primary School, St Augustine’s RC School, Stillington Primary School, Sutton-on-the Forest CE School, Tadcaster Grammar School, Riverside Primary, Whitby and Airy Hill Community Primary.
Meanwhile, in York, the schools set to be partially closed are: Applefields, Archbishop of York’s CE Juniors, Copmanthorpe, Dunnington, Elvington, Fishergate, Hempland, Huntington Primary, Lord Deramore’s, New Earswick, Osbaldwick, Our Ladies, Park Grove, Poppleton Road, Scarcroft, St Oswald’s CE, St Paul’s CE, Tang Hall, Westfield, Wigginton, All Saints RC, Archbishop Holgate’s CE, Canon Lee, Huntington Secondary, Joseph Rowntree, Millthorpe, York High School and Danesgate.
In East Yorkshire schools closed include Barmby on the Marsh primary, Beverley Grammar, Beverley High, Beverley St Nicholas, Driffield Juniors, Driffield School, Howden Juniors, Howden School and Technology College, Pocklington Juniors, The Market Weighton School, Woldgate College.
While schools that are part closed include: Bridlington School, Goole High, Market Weighton Infants, Pocklington CE Infants.
Schools not listed are either open as normal or have yet to decide.
City of York Council, North Yorkshire County Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council are each updating their lists of school closures daily ahead of Tuesday as they receive word of the action each school is taking.
