Fundraisers to cause a stir at Macmillan coffee morning event
BAKING will soon begin for the “world’s biggest coffee morning” on Friday.
The Macmillan Cancer Support annual event will see people serving homemade cakes, tea and coffee to raise funds for people affected by cancer.
In York, the Raylor Centre in James Street will be selling specially made chocolate and salted caramel with lavender and lemon cupcakes as well as more than £600 worth of tombola prizes. The event will take place between 10am and 2pm.
Meanwhile, at Barclays in Market Place, Selby, employees will be serving hot drinks and a slice of something sweet on Friday morning in the hope of raising £150 for people affected by cancer.
As well as being able to buy homemade cakes, tea and coffee, customers can also buy books to raise extra funds.
In 2012, Barclays employees and customers across the UK smashed the fundraising target and raised £640,000 for Macmillan, helping the charity to provide practical, medical and financial support to people affected by cancer so that no one has to face cancer alone.
Elaine Gray, Selby branch manager, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning once again this year.
“We’re really looking forward to inviting Selby’s local community to join us once again for such a good cause.
“There really couldn’t be an easier way to make a difference.
“As quite a few of our team have friends or family affected by cancer, we are determined to raise as much as we can to support Macmillan.”
