9:18am Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
TALENTED young chefs were put to the test as they competed in York Festival of Food & Drink’s Young Chefs Competition.
The contest saw four heats of hopefuls all 21 and under competing for the title of Young Chef 2013.
For some it was their first competition, with the brief to produce a two- course meal, each course containing two plates for tasting, in only 40 minutes using local produce and local ideas.
Contestant Ryan Carlyle, 21, has been a chef for four years and is currently working at Rudding Park in Harrogate as a chef. He said: “I’ve been pretty stressed at times, but managed to get it all out in time and I’m pleased with the results.”
During the event each chef was able to bring their own ingredients, but they were kept to a strict budget of £15.
The festival, in Parliament Street, ends on Sunday.
