7:35am Saturday 21st September 2013 in News
THE prizes have been announced for the Heart of York Bike Ride.
About 350 cyclists took part in either the 22 or 40-mile road route through North Yorkshire moorland and countryside earlier this month, raising money for the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Mending Broken Hearts Appeal to fund pioneering heart research.
The prizes were contributed by Hotel du Vin & Bistro and York Cookery School for both team and individual categories.
The top fundraiser prize for the individual category was a four-course Sunday lunch for two people at Hotel du Vin, while the top fundraiser team winners received a cookery team-building workshop in their modern teaching kitchens.
Sharon Oakley, BHF fundraising manager for York, said: “I’d like to thank Hotel du Vin & Bistro York and York Cookery School for so generously supporting our Heart of York Bike Ride. Whether you raise an additional £50, £100, £500 or more in sponsorship, your money will help save lives.”
Meanwhile the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Julie Gunnell, officially launched BHF shops stock donation appeal, the Great British Bag-athon, with an event at The Coppergate Shopping Centre by being the first person to donate a bag of items.
The Great British Bag-athon is BHF shops biggest stock donation campaign, aiming to raise one million bags of unwanted items this month. York people can donate bags of unwanted clothes, shoes, toys, books, CDs, DVDs, and so on at the centre until tomorrow or at a BHF shop.
Go to bhf.org.uk/bagathon or, to find a local BHF Shop, phone 0844 412 5000.
