OSCAR Hughes proudly walked on to the Old Trafford pitch with Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic cheered on by 75,000 fans.
The eight-year-old from Dunnington, near York, who is recovering from a brain tumour operation earlier this year, was made the mascot for United’s match against Crystal Palace last weekend. The Manchester United fan is pictured here in the centre circle with Vidic, the referee and his assistants and the Palace captain and mascot.
He said he met and got signatures from most of the players, including Wayne Rooney, before going down the tunnel to lead the team out with Vidic and then taking part in the team warm-up.
Oscar said: “It was very exciting.”
Oscar’s mother Marie said: “It was a very emotional day for us.There were a few tears.”
United agreed to make Oscar the mascot as a morale booster after his father Ian told the club of his illness, which involves continuing courses of chemotherapy.
