YORK is set for a dazzling firework show incorporating 3D effects and celebrity lookalikes as part of several Bonfire Night celebrations in the area.

Kaboom will feature Doctor Who lookalike Nigel Sumner, Guy Fawkes played by Gary Goldthorpe, as well as a Dalek, a Cyberman and a Tardis.

The characters gathered outside York Minster yesterday to launch the science fiction element for this year’s event.

The theme for the Kaboom Bonfire Night celebration has been inspired by the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, and will light up Rawcliffe Country Park on November 3.

It is one of several events taking place in the area in November.

York Maze will be holding its Fireworks Spectacular event on November 5 featuring a soundtrack of hit songs, a giant bonfire, and a fire show from the performer known as the Juggling Inferno.

The Kaboom display will be fully choreographed with fireworks, lasers and lighting and will be viewed through 3D glasses, creating a unique kaleidoscope effect.

Visitors to the event will be the first in Yorkshire and the north to witness the sci-fi effect the 3D spectacles will have on the fireworks.

The show will be presented by Jitu Desai, one of the world’s best pyrotechnicians, and is expected to attract thousands.

In addition to the main event there will be a funfair, a sparkler park, and a junior firework display for young children.

There will also be live entertainment including the Minster FM roadshow, fire jugglers, carnival performers, and the chance to win traditional Bonfire Night goodies.

Tickets cost £12.50 for adults and £9.50 for children, with a discount available for buying early.

Tickets must be purchased in advance via kaboomyork.com or at the Visit York Information Centre, Museum Street, York.
