Yearsley Grove Primary School in York celebrated becoming a Sustrans Bike It school when pupils, parents and staff rode into school for breakfast.

Sustrans is working with schools in the city to help children take to two wheels for the journey to school.

The riders tucked into yoghurts, pastries, fruit, milk and juice at the breakfast and everyone received a raffle ticket for a new bike, donated by Cycle Heaven in Bishopthorpe Road, which was won by Luke Dorking.

Naomi Wells Smith, of Sustrans, said: “Walking and cycling to school is a great way for our children to get the exercise they need every day to keep healthy.

“Research shows it allows them to become better students in the classroom. We had a lot of smiles on two wheels. ”
