Information fair outlines Over 50s Festival programme
8:12am Friday 13th September 2013 in News
CHARITIES and organisations which help people aged over 50 were on hand to give advice at an information fair in York.
The event, held at the Guildhall and the Spurriergate Centre, was part of York’s ninth festival for the over 50s and showcased a variety of 30 stalls operated by different charities and organisations throughout the day.
Among those represented were Age York UK, York Osteoporosis Society and York Older People’s Assembly, on hand to help people over 50 with any queries.
York’s Over 50s Festival started off small but in recent years has increased with more organisations eager to get involved, resulting in an over flow of six stalls at the Spurriergate centre, further along Coney street.
Festival co-ordinator Sue Lister said: “We are delighted with the overflow of stalls. Because people know this event is coming up every year, they know there is all kinds of information for older people, they can focus and ask questions. We have gone from strength to strength.”
This one-day event, held yesterday, will be followed by the main festival, which begins on Saturday, September 28, when there will the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities over nine days including indoor bowls, cycle rides and yoga.
The full programme can be viewed at yorkassembly.org.uk/festival and copies of the programme can be found in city centre outlets.
