Man arrested on suspicion of punching dog in York

A MAN has been arrested after allegedly punching his dog several times in York city centre.
It is believed a number of people saw the man hit his Staffordshire Bull Terrier outside the Perfume Shop in Spurriergate at about 2.30pm on Sunday, police said today.
The man then walked off up High Ousegate and was arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and a public order offence.
Police and the RSPCA are investigating.
The suspect, who is aged 38 and from Scarborough, was released on police bail.
North Yorkshire Police ask anyone who was on Spurriergate at the time and saw what happened to come forward.
The dog is in the care of the RSPCA.
