York Theatre Royal panto hopefuls put through their paces
7:30am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
POTENTIAL panto stars have been put through their paces as they bid for the chance to star alongside York’s legendary Dame, Berwick Kaler.
York Theatre Royal launched its search for young performers to take part in this year’s festive pantomime caper, Aladdin And The Twankeys, with a series of auditions at the De Grey Rooms at the weekend.
Candidates had to be aged between eight and 11 with some acting, singing or dancing experience, with the theatre saying the only other requirements were for them to be “full of energy and enthusiasm” and prepared to take the opportunity to line up alongside Berwick and the rest of the cast on the main house stage this Christmas.
Following the auditions, rehearsals will be held at the end of November, mostly on evenings and weekends, with performances – including some midweek matinees – taking place from December 12 until February 1.
The theatre provided trained chaperones for the auditions, which saw children asked to take part in group songs and dances and, in some cases, read from a script.
