Go-ahead for new Colliergate restaurant
8:12am Monday 9th September 2013 in News
PLANNERS have given the green light for a new restaurant to open in a York city-centre building which was previously a clothing store.
Permission has been granted for the use of the site in Colliergate where clothing chain ARK was based to be changed so it can be used for a restaurant, after it became vacant earlier this year.
It has not been confirmed which firm might move in, but the applicants said in documents sent to the planning officials that interested parties include “well-known and established” chains.
The Press revealed on Saturday that plans have been submitted for three new city-centre restaurants - two in the building which previously housed the Argos store on Bridge Street and one of the corner of George Hudson Street and Micklegate, at premises currently occupied by Budgens supermarket.
Italian restaurant chain Bella Italia is planning to open at Clifton Moor, while the former J Baker’s site in Fossgate is set to become a South Indian restaurant called Viva Goa.
