‘Cowardly’ conman posed as doctor to harass Selby OAP
12:04pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
A BOGUS caller posed as a doctor to talk his way into a pensioner’s North Yorkshire home, in an incident labelled “cowardly and cold-hearted” by police.
The 79-year-old female victim was at home with her husband when a man claiming to be a replacement doctor from Beech Tree Surgery in Selby came to the door.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the man, who said his name was Dave, managed to talk his way into the woman’s bungalow in Kitchener Street, at about noon on Monday, August 5.
He asked the woman questions of a sexual nature before she asked him to leave.
A police spokesman said: “Fortunately, the elderly woman was not harmed in this incident but she is vulnerable and it is important that we identify who this man is.
“Targeting elderly people in this way is cowardly and cold-hearted and if you have any information which can help identify who he is, please contact the police or Crimestoppers.”
No one from Beech Tree Surgery was available for comment.
Anyone with information which could help identify the man should phone police on 101 and ask for Detective Constable Emma Drummond or Selby CID.
Alternatively, information can be emailed to email@example.com or passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
