Twilight run to raise funds for Cancer Research
GLOW sticks, sparklers and fairy lights are expected to light up the city’s skyline as part of a night-time charity run.
The Cancer Research Twilight run, which will be held on Friday, October 25, will see hundreds of women don their shiniest accessories to raise money for Cancer Research.
It is the first time the Twilight run has come to York and it will set off from the city centre at 7pm.
Rachel Speight-McGregor, area fundraising manager for Cancer Research UK, said: “It is something a little bit different from the daytime Race for Life.
“It is a fantastic experience to be a part of and you get to raise some money and have some fun.”
The 5k run will also have a spooky-themed dress code to celebrate Halloween a few days later and Rachel, who is trying to recruit a team of 100, wants everyone to get involved.
She said: “We are trying to recruit 1,000 people for the run, and I am hoping to get 100 in my team. My two-year-old niece is doing it and my two sisters and we are all going to dress up in something spooky.”
Rachel will be leading the warm-up for the run in her self-confessed “mad, Yorkshire- style way”. The Zumba teacher said it will include lots of shaking and lots of spooky moves.
She will be wearing her Piglet costume which she wore for last year’s Race for Life warm- up, but this time adding some spooky details to it.
