THE England v Scotland Under-16s Victory Shield match tonight has been switched to Scunthorpe United's ground because the pitch at KitKat Crescent, York, is waterlogged.

York City will now miss out on the fee for staging the match, despite having helped to sell out the game. It would have been the biggest crowd at the Crescent for three years.

It is thought 85 per cent of the pitch is playable, but there are waterlogged sections in the corners.

The Press understands that if it was a Conference game, it would probably have gone ahead, but the Football Association are concerned for the health and safety of the young players.

City communications director Sophie McGill said: "After all the work we've put in, it's very sad that this should happen. It's unprecedented that one of these games has sold out but we've publicised it well and sold 6,000 tickets. We get expenses but now not a hosting fee."

The match will now be played at Scunthorpe's Glanford Park ground tonight (kick off 8.05pm), and will still be televised by Sky Sports cameras.

Tickets bought for KitKat Crescent will still be valid.

This site confirmed with York City at 11am this morning that the club is still awaiting details from the FA about refunds. The club has therefore requested that you do not call them at this stage as they are not in a position to give out any further information.

City's match at Grays Athletic tomorrow is also in doubt because of a waterlogged pitch. An inspection was to take place today.
