Men arrested on suspicion of theft from Selby district school
10:29am Thursday 29th August 2013 in News
TWO men have been arrested after an attempted theft of heating fuel from a Selby school this morning.
Officers from North Yorkshire Police saw the two men sitting in a Ford Transit van outside Hensall County Primary School in Church Lane, just after midnight.
When the men saw the officers, they drove off, but when they were stopped a short time later, police found two 1,000-litre tanks, pumping and siphoning equipment inside the van. Further checks by police also found the school’s heating oil tank had been tampered with.
A 20-year-old man from Doncaster and a 33-year-old man of no fixed address were arrested on suspicion of theft and going equipped for theft, and remain in police custody for questioning.
Police have urged anyone who saw anyone behaving suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident to phone 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
