Mum tells of photo heartache after laptop theft
A YORK mum has been left heartbroken after a computer containing family photographs of her young son was stolen.
Charlotte Berresford, 47, has made an emotional appeal for their return after her Samsung laptop was stolen from her kitchen in Leeside, Dringhouses, in the early hours of yesterday. It contained hundreds of baby and early childhood photographs of her six-year-old son Oscar.
The York Hospital nurse said they were of huge sentimental value as they were most of the pictures she had taken of her long-awaited child, and she did not have a back-up.
Ms Berresford realised she had been burgled after she heard her front door slam at about 4am yesterday and when she went into the kitchen, her Samsung laptop had gone.
She said she realised to her dismay after the burglary – during which other items including an old computer and cameras were also taken – that the intruder had got in through an unlocked door.
“I have no idea how many people have been in the house, I don’t know if it’s one or two. If Oscar had been here it would have upset me far more.”
“Please if there’s anyway you could return the photographs – it was the last chance I had to have a little boy. They are very precious photographs,” Ms Berresford said in an appeal to anyone who may know where the laptop is.
“I’m just brokenhearted. I’m not very good with computers and that’s the only way I save my photographs. I’m gutted – they are those really special memories which you don’t get back. Your memories fade about what children looked like at that time and photographs bring them back.”
Anyone with information about the pictures or who may be able to return them is asked to email firstname.lastname@example.org
North Yorkshire Police confirmed the incident had been reported at about 5am yesterday. Anyone who saw anything suspicious or who may have information which could help police is asked to phone PC Andrew Muir on 101.
