'Thousands of pounds' found in bin bag on York doorstep

POLICE are investigation after a bin bag containing thousands of pounds in cash was left on a York door step.
The bin bag was found on Tuesday morning by residents of a former vicarage, who immediately gave it to North Yorkshire Police.
Officers are trying to find out where the cash came from and ask anyone with information to contact them.
Detective Inspector Andrea Kell of York CID, said: “This is a very unusual find which remains unexplained and we would like to find out where the money came from and rule out any criminal connection.”
The bag was found at 10am on Tuesday, which is also bin collection day for the area and officers believe it will have been left at some point during the early morning, a police spokeswoman said.
