WORLD-CLASS athletes gave out some winning tips at a day of disability sports at a York leisure centre.
As part of Celebrating Ability Day at Energise people got the chance to try a number of different sports and activities, including wheelchair baseketball, goalball, indoor climbing and new-age kurling.
Those giving out help and advice were goalball athlete, Jamie Hodgson, who has won a place in the Great Britain squad for the IBSA ‘C’ European Championships in September; Clifford Woolass, twice World Singles Champion (2010 and 2011) of new-age-kurling, Sianagh Gallagher, a gold medal winning paraclimber, and middle and long distance runner Dave Moorcroft from Join In – an organisation connecting clubs and groups with their communities and inspiring people to volunteer.
City of York councillor Sonja Crisp, said: “Celebrating Ability Day highlighted disabled people’s ability to take part in sport and there was useful information available on the increasing number of sporting opportunities for disabled people in York every week.”
