TELEVISION star Dawn O’Porter snapped up bags of vintage clothes yesterday while filming a new programme for Channel 4.
The presenter spent four hours filming in the Fossgate shop Purple Haze for a new series This Old Thing – in the York episode Dawn will try to persuade a “vintage phobic” shopper to buy second hand.
While the woman accompanying Dawn was more reluctant to buy and took some persuading to try things on, the presenter herself bought a 1960s dress, two playsuits, scarves and accessories, said Carolyn Cowlbeck, who co-owns the shop with her daughter Laura. Carolyn said: “They were really nice people. It was quite infuriating hearing somebody being negative but it was all good fun.”
Dawn later wrote on Twitter: “Purple Haze Vintage in York is brilliant. Run by great girls who have excellent taste and know their stuff.” Later the crew headed for Priestley’s Vintage Clothing in Grape Lane. The show is expected to be aired in February.
