York councillor slams Eric Pickles bin idea
8:54am Tuesday 20th August 2013 in News
A GOVERNMENT minister’s calls for councils to ensure new housing schemes include enough space to hide bins has been mocked by a leading York councillor.
Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles recently said too many wheelie bins had created “a blot on the landscape” ahead of new bin storage policies being published.
City of York Council’s Coun David Levene, said: “The latest offering from Eric Pickles’ big box of bright ideas, which has included gems such as increasing landfill by returning to weekly collections and inviting chaos by allowing parking on double-yellow lines, is a bit of a flop given we already seek to ensure new residential developments make provision for appropriate refuse storage facilities.”
