Police start big blitz on bad drivers
8:44am Tuesday 20th August 2013 in News
SPEEDING drivers who put lives at risk will be the focus of attention across North Yorkshire and York this week.
A week of action started yesterday and will run until Sunday.
It will target speeders, drink- drivers, those using mobile phones and people not wearing seatbelts while they are behind the wheel.
The campaign is part of the TISPOL Europe-wide speed awareness campaign, aimed at raising motorists’ awareness of the dangers of speeding as well as enforcing speed limits.
Inspector Paul Cording, of North Yorkshire Police’s roads policing group, said: “It is believed that around a quarter of collisions resulting in death or serious injury involves at least one vehicle travelling in excess of the speed limit.”
