YOUNG actors brought the English Civil War to the city in their annual play.
The latest production from The National Centre For Early Music, off Walmgate, in York, for one night last night, saw 30 children between the ages of nine and 14 perform the adventure of Trooper Jane.
Set during the Civil War, the play told the story of how Jane Ingilby’s world was turned upside down as the fighting drew closer. Determined to protect her family and friends living in Ripley Castle, Jane had to face her enemy, Oliver Cromwell.
Hours of rehearsal and music-making in the run-up to the production were led by director Paul Birch and musical director Cathryn Drew.
The hour-long performance was hailed as “brilliant” by centre staff.
