Bishopthorpe village clock refurbished
9:03am Saturday 17th August 2013 in News
A CLOCK in a York village is ticking again after time stood still for several years.
The timepiece at the Old School in Bishopthorpe has been refurbished by John Cossins, who installed a new face and movement and repainted the clock face.
Bishopthorpe Parish Council contributed towards the cost of the scheme after the clock had been out of action for some time.
The Rev Malcolm Macnaughton, who chairs the trustees of the Old School, said: “We are very grateful to Mr Cossins, who did the work at no cost other than that of the new parts, and for the financial support of the parish council.
“The clock can now be appreciated by visitors and villagers alike and once again forms an important part of the street scene.
“It is the first stage of a programme of refurbishment for the Old School, which is set to provide excellent facilities for children and young people in the village.”
