Electric buses to run from Poppleton Bar Park&Ride

A BUS firm will start running electric services from a new Park&Ride site next year after sealing a fresh three-year deal.
First York will continue to operate buses at the city’s Park&Rides through the renewed contract with City of York Council, and launch a new electric bus route from the 600-space Poppleton Bar site when it opens next spring.
The electric buses have been partly paid for through the Government’s Green Bus fund, which has awarded £594,000 to First. Six of the services will run on York’s Park&Ride network through First’s bid with the aim of cutting pollution, and the firm’s commercial director Simon Pearson said: “We are delighted to have been given this extension to continue to run the service at an exciting time for bus travel in York. In partnership with the council, we will continue to develop new and effective ways of making bus travel better for customers and communities and have a number of other initiatives to be launched over the next few weeks.”
Coun Dave Merrett said York’s Park&Ride service was among the UK’s best with more than 3.5 million annual journeys.
