Fashion to take centre stage at Ebor festival
Models Jessie Gillick in an outfit from the 1800s and Helen Rook, in an up-to-the-minute ensemble, prepare for the Ebor Festival
TIMES and styles have changed, but York Racecourse’s biggest race meeting is still hugely popular.
In a display of the evolution of women’s outfits for the prestigious Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival, which started in 1843, Jessie Gillick, from York, and Helen Rook, from York Racecourse, donned new and period clothing from York Theatre Royal to promote the event.
The Festival runs from next Wednesday until Saturday, and this year includes Fashion at the Ebor, a dedicated marquee complete with catwalk and shopping, with milliner Yvette Jelfs on hand with top tips for top hats.
Throughout the event, racegoers will be able to take to the catwalk in a free competition, with the winner on Ladies’ Day, next Thursday, crowned best dressed racegoer, with the prize of a break for two to the Marriott Hotel in Dubai.
A spokeswoman for the event said: “It is about looking your best and enjoying fashion.”
