A MOTORCYCLIST has been killed in a crash on a North Yorkshire road tonight.

Emergency services have closed a section of the  A163 near North Duffield, following the crash, which happened at the junction with Main Street at about 6.30pm.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the vehicles involved were a blue BMW 520, which was travelling from Market Weighton in the direction of the A19, and the biker, who was riding a green Kawasaki motorcycle and wearing green leathers, who was travelling in the opposite direction.

A spokeswoman for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance were called to the site of the crash.

However, the biker, a 48-year-old man believed to be from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police spokesman said the biker was travelling with another motorcyclist, who was on a black Triumph Daytona bike in all black leathers, prior to the accident.

The road is currently closed between North Duffield and Bubwith, to allow investigation into the crash, and it is likely to remain closed for some time.

Anyone who saw the bikers or the blue BMW520 prior to the crash has been urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
