A SUPERMARKET chain has won permission for its new city-centre store in York to have longer opening hours.

Morrisons is moving into the former Jessops store in Spurriergate, creating between 15 and 20 jobs, and said the trading terms for the premises needed to be altered so it could open between 6am and 11pm every day as an M local outlet.

The company said this was needed to allow it to keep pace with local supermarket rivals, and the application has been approved by City of York Council, whose planning officers said the new trading hours would not affect the quality of life for nearby residents.
