MEET the winner of this year’s Pet Icon competition – Riley the cocker spaniel.

Pictured here with his owners Julie Holmes and her daughters Laura, 18, and Emma, 13, of Huntington, Riley will be two years old in September and is a much-loved family pet.

Mrs Holmes said: “He has a real spring in his step after winning the title.

“He’s so placid he’s fantastic and we entered him because we believed he was a bit of a champ.

“I can’t express enough what a lovely dog he is. He’s a lovely family pet and we do dog agility with him at Ebor Dog Training, and he loves it.”

Riley won a year’s supply of pet food after readers of The Press voted for their favourite from entries from all over the region published in the paper and online. Mrs Holmes said the prize will come in very handy.

This year’s competition was sponsored by Thompsons Country Store, which has a large store in Murton, opposite York Auction Centre and the company has supplied the dog food.

Thompsons Country Store is holding its Pet Show on Saturday, July 27, from 10am to 4pm at Murton Auction Centre.

All Pet Icon entrants that visit the show with their pet will be entered into a prize draw to win a Thompsons Country Store goodie bag containing feed and vouchers and if Riley wins his category at the show, he will be crowned Champion of Champions.
