ENTRIES have been coming in for an annual show celebrating the region’s most adorable pets.

Scores of animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and those of the less fluffy variety such as reptiles, will take part in the Thompsons Country Store Pet Show on Saturday, July 27, from 10am to 4pm.

The contest, which will be held at Murton Auction Centre, will see judges decide on eight show classes including; best cat, best large dog, best small dog, best exotic pet, best small animal, pet most like its owner and new categories best veteran dog and best rescue dog.

Among those who have entered this year is Lisa Locker, of Viking Road, Acomb, with her Border Collie, Jake.

As well as an array of pet food and pet goods stalls offering free samples, feeding and pet care advice on the day there will be displays from Pendle Dog Agility and Sam’s Safari’s will exhibit different species of reptiles, snakes and other exotic animals that visitors can view and handle.

New for 2013; all local schools have been invited to enter the “Pet’s Around The World” competition which coincides with this year’s show. All posters entered in the competition will be displayed at the show.

Thompsons Country Store is supporting this year’s The Press Pet Icon competition. All Pet Icon entrants that visit the show with their pet will be entered into a prize draw to win a Thompsons Country Store goodie bag containing feed and vouchers and if this year’s Pet Icon winner wins his or her category at the show, they will be crowned Champion of Champions.

Sarah Ivinson, who is co-ordinating the event said: “The pet show is establishing itself as a premier event in York and has grown in popularity every year. Show visitors not only get a chance to show their pets at a fun, family pet show but it is also a superb opportunity to talk face to face with some of the well-known pet brands, offering advice about pet care, feeding and health.”
