THE tenth anniversary of music and beer festival Pocktoberfest has attracted top names to entertain fans this autumn.

Brit Award and Mercury Music nominee Richard Hawley and Squeeze frontman Glen Tilbrook will headline at the East Yorkshire festival.

Ex-Pulp and Longpigs guitarist Hawley has a critically acclaimed back catalogue, while Tilbrook penned such legendary Squeeze tracks as Cool For Cats and Up The Junction.

They are joined by two US performers, Grammy-nominated Tift Merritt and the Dylan-esque Josh Ritter, recently named as one of the 100 greatest living songwriters. It is a significant coup for Pocktoberfest, which will again be hosted in The Old Railway Station at the end of October.

Up-and-coming Yorkshire musicians Boss Caine, Hope and Social, TE Morris, Edwina Hayes, The Gallenders, Hayley Gaftarnick and Palms 13 also perform at the event, which in a decade has gone from a small beer fest to become one of East Yorkshire’s premier events.

Organised by Pocklington and Market Weighton Round Table and Pocklington Arts Centre, the festival is again supporting Help For Heroes, plus the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and local causes. Organisers hope the top-class music plus more than 50 real ales, lagers and ciders will guarantee a record-breaking fundraiser.

Pocklington Arts Centre manager Janet Farmer, the festival’s music programmer, said: “I am extremely pleased with the music line-up for this year’s festival. Last year’s event received fantastic feedback and I hope we can build on this success.”

Pocktoberfest organising committee head Chris Waite said: “It is our tenth anniversary – a huge achievement in itself given that the event is run by and staffed purely by volunteers. We have raised and donated some £25,000 for local and national charities, helped launch local businesses, attracted world-class artists to Pocklington and have also helped to significantly raise the profile of the town – something we can all be proud of.”

Tickets go on sale on July 16 at 10am. As a thank-you to local residents, those living in the YO42 postcode area can buy adult tickets for the main music day (Sunday, October 27) for £35, rather than the regular price of £38. These must be purchased in person at Pocklington Arts Centre no later than August 31.

Tickets for Saturday October 26 cost £10. Sunday costs £38, £30 for under-21s. Family tickets are £110 (2 adults + 2 children under 16, or 1 + 3).

Weekend tickets cost £45 for adults, £35 for under 21s, or £130 for a family ticket.
