A BIKER has been seriously injured in a crash on a North Yorkshire road.

Emergency services were called to the scene, on the B1248 Scarborough Road at Norton, near Westfield Nurseries, at about 8.20am yesterday.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the motorcycle collided with a Nissan Cabstar pick-up truck, and the motorcyclist, an 18-year-old local man, suffered a serious leg injury.

A man in dark clothing stopped at the scene and helped to stem bleeding from the biker’s leg until the ambulance arrived, but left without giving his details. Police have urged him to get in touch.

Acting traffic sergeant Yvonne Taylor, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “The man who gave the motorcyclist medical assistance at the scene was a great help. Unfortunately, he left without leaving his details and I would urge him to make contact so we can establish if he has any information that can assist the investigation.”

The biker was treated by paramedics at the scene, and taken by air ambulance to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough for further treatment, where he remains. The police spokesman said the motorcyclist’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The B1248 was closed in both directions for more than three hours, with motorists diverted through the nearby industrial estate and along Parliament Street and Westfield Way.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw either vehicle prior to the accident, should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101.
