THE development of Stockeld Park, near Wetherby, has continued as it opens a summer attraction.

Stockeld Park, the 2,000-acre estate, located on the A661 between Wetherby and Spofforth, has held a Christmas Adventure event since 2007.

Each year, the profits are reinvested into the business, and owner Peter Grant says they have been investing to attract sustainable year-round tourism business.

It announced last October that it was ploughing £250,000 into its infrastructure to enable it to target conference business, food festivals and company away days, and it has launched a Hallowe’en Adventure.

Now the business has launched a Summer Adventure, to provide activities from July 20 until September 1, and as a result is creating 40 new seasonal jobs.

Mr Grant said: “Following a site development in 2012, we’ve expanded further in preparation for the Summer Adventure opening, which will provide a unique summer day out for families.

“It’s been a long time in the planning stages and we’ve created amazing features within our parkland and woodland and can’t wait to welcome families to experience it for themselves. This will also create jobs and make a larger contribution to the local and regional tourism offer.”

The new Summer Adventure will include an outdoor retro roller rink with roller disco every Saturday night, a huge yew tree maze, go-kart track, one of the UK’s biggest jumping pillows, custom made slide, and electric scooters for hire through the interactive Enchanted Forest, as well as indoor games, play and crafts for rainy days.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome To Yorkshire, said: “It’s always exciting to welcome a new addition to the Yorkshire tourism family, and this promises to offer something unique for groups and families alike.

“It will also help boost the tourism economy and create jobs, which is great news.”
