THESE puplis from a York primary school were out to clean up Clifton Green as part of a youth programme run by The Archbishop of York.

The 47 pupils from nearby Clifton Green Primary School took on a litter picking challenge on Thursday as part of their Archbishop of York Youth Trust Young Leaders Award.

According to award organisers the children, all in Year five, have already taken part in six sessions learning about what it really means to be a young leader, involving team-based activities and making “observational walks around the local community”.

Robin Rolls, the Archbishop of York Youth Trust Director, said: “Young people can inspire everyone to get involved and join in and make positive changes. Our motto is ‘be the change you want to see’ and this is what the Young Leaders Award is all about. We look forward to welcoming Clifton Green Primary School to formally present the Key Stage Two Awards in July – but in the meantime keep up the good work.”

He said the litter pick was the culmination of the children’s “hard work to serve their local community in practical ways and help bring about the change they want to see by making their local area litter free”.
