THE Best Primary School project category in our Community Pride 2013 Awards will again be sponsored by York recycling company Yorwaste.

Steve Grieve, managing director of Yorwaste, said: “We are proud to once again be sponsoring the York Community Pride Awards and in particular the best primary school project category.

“As a company with many of its operations in the York area, we know there are many fantastic people who go out of their way to help others, without thought of credit or reward.

“It is these inspiring unsung heroes that make York the place it is and we hope as many people as possible will take time to nominate those they feel deserve some recognition for their efforts.

“We know from our own experience of working with schools around the subject of the environment that there is some great work being undertaken by local children and we look forward to hearing more about projects that are enhancing local communities."

Last year’s awards saw Dunnington CE Primary School recognised for the positive difference it made to its surroundings and environment with its gardening challenge competition, which has brightened up the village of Dunnington.

Following the glittering award ceremony last October, Caroline Gilderdale, of Dunnington Primary, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed it and it really made the school alive.

“They felt they were giving something to the community.”

The Community Pride Awards, held in conjunction with City of York Council and Benenden Health and staged later this year at York Racecourse, are a celebration of special individuals and groups whose sterling work marks them as true champions of the place where we live and work.
