ORGANISERS of the Macmillan Charity Raceday on Knavesmire are hoping to top last year when more than £250,000 was raised.

York Racecourse will be the scene for the 43rd event, which over the years has raised £5.5million for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Lucy Robertson, Macmillan event manager, said: “Although planning for the day is well underway, there are lots of ways you can be involved.

“From company sponsorship down to prize donations for the raffles and tombolas, giving your time to volunteer on the day or just attending, as all profits from the day are donated to Macmillan.”

One of the highlight’s of this years raceday on June 15 will be a silent auction where racegoers can bid on a 3.5ct pear-shaped aquamarine gemstone, supplied by WERK by TCJ Designs in York.

Lady Halifax, president of Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “I’m sure this very attractive gemstone will be sought after and help raise a fantastic sum for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“York Raceday raises an incredible amount of money to help people affected by cancer; I’m hoping this year will be even bigger and better than ever before.”

Mandy Morris, designer at WERK by TCJ Designs, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Macmillan Charity Raceday. The winning bidder for our will work with me to create a beautiful piece of bespoke jewellery, complete with additional stones and precious metals.”

Macmillan Charity Raceday is a collaboration between York Racecourse and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event features a programme of racing, a special fundraising luncheon, and silent and live auctions. Last year, 30,000 racegoers attended.
