DRY weather is forecast for this bank holiday and there are plenty of events and activities going on in York and North Yorkshire.

Foodies and music fans should head to York Racecourse on Sunday for the second annual YO1 festival. As well as music, the festival will feature street food curated by NorthernstrEats, a micro ale festival with about 16 beers and ciders and vintage shopping experience, York does Vintage. Another major visitor draw will be the 40th Anniversary Festival of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which starts today and features a range of working engines from the railway’s rich history.

For flower lovers, the final day of the Burnby Hall Gardens Tulip Festival takes place on Sunday. The event, near Pocklington, runs from 10am to 5.30pm. Call 01759 307125 for details.

Meanwhile Slingsby, near Malton, is one of a number of villages throughout the region holding colourful scarecrow festivals this weekend. Others worth a visit include Dunnington, Haxby and Wigginton near York.

Harewood, near Leeds, will be holding a huge Festival of Play this weekend featuring a range of activities. Organisers hope to raise awareness of the importance of fun and active play for children and adults.

The event, which runs on Sunday and Monday, includes a Legoland attraction, go-karts, adventure playground, story telling and den-building. To find out more go to harewood.org

On Monday, Dutch House in Crayke has organised a family event called Nature Day. The event is described as a celebration of all that is good about nature and comprises a range of children’s art activities, live music, nature trails, story telling, demonstrations, barbecue, arts and craft stalls by local artists and plant sales. The event runs from 11am till 4pm.

Back in York, a May Day Fete will take place at Stockton Lane Playgroup on Saturday from 11am to 3pm.
