British test is up next for Cameron

EVESHAM’S Cameron Brodie has impressed in recent competitions ahead of the British Championships in June.

The 20-year-old joined fellow Great Britain competitors Hannah Miley and Robbie Renwick in the important Eindhoven Cup in Holland.

Brodie tackled his main event, the 200-metre butterfly, on the second day and eased through the heats to make the evening’s finals in fourth place against opponents from across Europe.

He started strongly in the decider and led at the first turn before building on his advantage over the first 150m. But the early pace took its toll and Brodie was beaten into second place by Tomas Havrenek, of the Czech Republic, over the last 15m although his time of two minutes 1.12 seconds was a season’s best.

But Brodie, who also finished sixth in the 400m freestyle final in 3.59.44, plans to improve further for June’s British meeting which is the qualifier for the World Championships in Barcelona two months later.

Last year’s championships acted as the Olympic trials and his time of 1.58.94 proved a major breakthrough.

Brodie also tackled the Scottish Age Group Championships in Edinburgh in the 18 and over section, winning the 100m and 200m butterfly with good times.

This month, he competes for Scotland in the relays in a tri-nations event against Wales and Ireland.
