HEATED words erupted at Malvern Town Council’s meeting on Tuesday evening during a discussion about committee minutes.
At the start of the meeting, the mayor, Councillor Ian Hopwood, announced one agenda item, concerning the code of conduct, would be withdrawn as the monitoring officer is dealing with the issue.
The agenda item had been scheduled to be heard in private.
A few minutes later, the row arose after CounJeremy Thomas wanted the minutes of a council committee meeting held the previous week altered to include a record of an informal discussion.
During the discussion, tempers became increasingly frayed and Coun Hopwood had to raise his voice and bang the chairman’s gavel several times, especially as certain matters were mentioned which should not have been aired.
When a named vote was taken on the minutes, three members voted to approve them and ten against, with three abstentions and one refusal to vote. The minutes have remained unadopted.
