YORK is to promote electric cars by installing a network of pay-as-you-go charging points around the city.
In addition to 12 charging points already located across York, new fast-charging points will be installed in city-centre car parks and Park&Ride sites, York Designer Outlet, supermarkets and hotels.
City of York Council will also hold an event on April 10, from 10.30am to 4pm, at the south entrance of York Designer Outlet, featuring electric supercar the Tesla Roadster, as well as electric cars from Nissan, Toyota, Mia and Renault.
Users will be able to pay by text, track their energy usage remotely and see live availability of charge points from their mobile phones.
