THE Memorial Room at RAF Linton-On-Ouse which honours all those who served at the airbase and its satellite airfields since 1937, and the hundreds of Allied air force servicemen and women who died during the Second World War, will be open to the public at the weekend.

The room contains a wide variety of photographs and artefacts from the wartime era as well as displays covering the post-war use of the station by Fighter Command and No 1 Flying Training School.

The room will be open on a pre-booked basis at 2pm on the following Sundays: April 7, May 12, June 2, July 7, August 4, September 1, October 13.

Wing Commander (Retired) Alan Mawby the curator of the collection said: “The memorial room gives a fascinating insight into life here during the Second World War and contains hundreds of exhibits, photographs and first-hand accounts from that period.

“It is still regularly visited by veterans of the squadrons based at Linton-on-Ouse during the war, all of whom are in their late-eighties at least.

“But it will also be of interest to people who lived in the area at the time as well as to younger people who would like to find out a little about what was happening on the many RAF bases in Yorkshire over those critical years.”
