Cyclists urged to register for British Heart Foundation's Heart Of York Bike Ride

CYCLISTS are being urged to slip through the gears quickly and register for the 2013 British Heart Foundation (BHF) Heart Of York Bike Ride.
This year, the event which offers cyclists aged 14 and over the choice of a 22-mile or 40-mile ride through some of North Yorkshire’s finest countryside and moorland, takes place on Sunday, September 1.
Both routes start from the new York St John University Sports Centre off Haxby Road. With only 500 places up for grabs, cyclists can register online at bhf.org.uk/heartofyorkbikeride
Phil McMahon, BHF York Committee vice chair and event organiser, said: “The Heart Of York Bike Ride takes riders through some of our most picturesque countryside. Last year was a tremendous success and we would love to see as many people as possible take to the road, enjoy the challenge and get healthy again this year.
“I urge people across York and North Yorkshire to join our fight against heart disease and register today.”
The event is being organised by the BHF in partnership with York St John University, City of York Council, and Just 30. York’s CycleStreet will be on hand to provide maintenance support throughout the bike ride.

But, you'd have thought that when the opportunity to post on a true cycling good cause such as this, that PP would have bothered to put in an appearance and wish 'em luck. Instead he's elsewhere introducing bike slants to every non-bike topic on the Press website. Why?

The majority of cyclists in York are normal, well-respected people and your comments just simply infuriate and annoy both cyclists and non-cyclists. Put a sock in it and ironically you may well see more people deciding to cycle around this brilliant city for cyclists.
Well done to BHF, YSJ and Cyclestreets for giving up their time and energies in a positive way and I fully support your race and positivity. Hopefully it will encourage more people to try cycling and to see the benefits along the way. Congratulations.

Last year we fixed around 15 punctures, a few gear tune ups and and a random selection of other things at the roadside to enable the riders to complete the route.
This year we will be providing the support by motorcycle, to hopefully provide a faster service than before.
We will also be fielding a group of riders on the event too.
