‘Unlawful’ HS2 consultation ruling welcomed by campaigners

THE Country Land and Business Association says the Government has a golden opportunity to re-think the way it compensates people living along the route of Britain’s proposed high speed railway, following a High Court judgement.

A judge ruled on Friday that the Government’s consultation on compensation arrangements was unlawful – a decision which was welcomed by campaigners at Church Fenton, near Tadcaster, which is on the route of a spur from the HS2 line.

Dorothy Fairburn, CLA North Regional Director, said the current compensation regime failed to balance the need for new infrastructure with the rights of the private landowner.

This Church Fenton group is going to become the North's version of the 'whiney people against the train line group' down in the Chilterns that have tried to stop the line aren't they?
