TWO York schoolgirls got the chance to officially open the new Wickes superstore in York after winning a competition to design either a dream bathroom or kitchen.

Zara Ritchie, eight, of Wigginton Primary School, and Grace Bell, seven, of Lakeside Primary School, at Clifton, cut a ribbon at a ceremony with the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Keith Hyman, and the Sheriff of York, Coun Paul Firth.

The girls received £50 toy shop vouchers for their efforts and their pictures are now on display in the DIY store’s new centre in Lysander Close, at Clifton Moor, York.
